Human Circulatory System Diseases

Our heart is a muscle that helps in pumping blood throughout the body connecting all the cells in it. Everyday, 2,000 gallons of blood go around repeatedly, traveling 60,000 miles in our blood vessels that forms the circulatory system with the heart, acting as a major clog in the wheel.

So, when there is something wrong with the heart, it has to affect the entire circulatory system as well. These problems are called as human circulatory system diseases, which can be quite lethal leading to death too.

Here is a list of the circulatory system diseases starting with atherosclerosis, which is the most common ailment leading to heart and circulatory problems. Atherosclerosis involves clogging of the artery and other blood vessels by the formation of plaque due to fat, calcium or cholesterol in their walls. This affects the supply of blood.

Another common disease is angina wherein a block in the arteries and blood vessels causes some chest pain and discomfort mainly because of less oxygen and blood flow. Then, there is aortic aneurysm and arrhythmia. The first having a damaged or bulged aorta leading to bleeding or tearing, while the latter involves an irregular rhythm of the heart.

Another type of circulatory disease is cardiomyopathy, which involves the weakening the heart muscles leading to heart failure. Coronary artery disease is the next stage of atherosclerosis that leads to a heart attack, affecting the heart muscles.

Hyperlipidemia or hypercholesterolemia is caused when there is a very high level of cholesterol in the blood, increasing the risks of a heart attack, or high blood pressure, wherein the systolic blood pressure rises above 140 mmHg, while the diastolic pressure goes above 90 mmHg.

A healthy lifestyle, exercise and careful food habits can prevent human circulatory system diseases.
