The MCAT consists of three multiple choice sections with 15 points included in each section totaling to a total of 45 points. An average good score in MCAT is around 30 and a leading score would be over a 34 to 36. A score of 36 or better would put you in the top 2% of the country.
However, if you score below 25 in MCAT it would not be possible for you to achieve admission to allopathic (MD) medical schools. Yet, you will still be viable for osteopathic medical schools, podiatry schools and Caribbean medical schools.
Some of the prominent medical schools in the country have a minimum MCAT score of 30 to 32 - lesser than that wouldn’t allow you to pass any tests for interviews.
It is believed that, typically, on the basis of the applications a medical school gets each year, the school leans to get rid of applicants by MCAT scores. Hence, it's the most easy and most cost-effective means to limit the search for aggressive applicants.
Medical schools employ the MCAT score as a method of testing and equating appliers as it qualifies as being the most target dimensions.
Thus, the MCAT score is an indication of your capability to argue, imagine and understand charts and data and has not much to do with your work ethic or your capability to remember.
