- Vitamin B Deficiency: Many people get canker sores when they have deficiency of vitamin B, primarily vitamin B12 and folic acid. If you suffer from canker sores and have a vitamin B deficiency, it is advisable to take multivitamin and mineral supplements on a daily basis.
- Sensitivity to Toothpaste: Many toothpastes have an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a foaming agent. People who suffer from canker sores could be allergic to this agent and many sufferers note a great improvement in their symptom once they stop using toothpaste that contains it.
- Genetic Disposition: If your parent suffers from canker sores on the tongue, the likelihood of you getting them are very high. If a parent has canker sores, the chances of children getting them increase by 90 percent.
- Tongue Injuries: Canker sores can occur on the tongue it you cause injuries to the insides of your mouth by biting, with a toothpicks or brushing your teeth too vigorously.
- Hormonal Changes: When a women is about to menstruate, her body undergoes hormonal changes and the possibility of canker sores increases. So also when a person is stressed out, the body experiences hormonal changes which can cause canker sores on the tongue.
